Professional Societies' Role in Increasing STEM Diversity
|
|
|
|
|
How can professional societies work towards increasing diversity in the STEM fields? The presentations,
below, are from a workshop sponsored by CPST, in collaboration with the Association for Women in Science
and the National Academies' Committee on Maximizing Opportunities for Women in Science, Engineering and
Medicine in February 2008. The workshop was supported by the National Science Foundation. A new request
for funds is currently under consideration at NSF to continue this work.

The ADVANCE: Institutional Transformation program has been working to increase faculty diversity at 34
campuses across the United States. Funded by the National Science Foundation in 2001, the program
represents a data-driven effort to increase the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women,
especially women of color, in academic STEM. These toolkits provide you with guidelines to implement
a data-driven effort in your own organization. These toolkits were also developed with National
Science Foundation funding.
